In Mr. Boos' own words:
"The black and silver plaque on Launch complex #34 that was
seen in the movie Armageddon was affixed to the pad's leg by
myself on Jan. 27,1996 with Scott Grissom present. It was placed
there in honor of the Apollo 1 crew, NOT for the movie! Last year
(2007) the plaque was stolen and I had another one made up and
is now in place where the orginal one was affixed."
